The Gorroppu Gorge
When the Maestral wind blows tempestuous have no fear, follow it to the Gorroppu Canyon, as only within its majestic walls can you see the stars in the daytime, experience the stirrings of the sky, hear the songs and the music played by the wind. C.S.
The Gorroppu Gorge is one of the most celebrated European canyons.
It formed around one million years ago and is considered one of the most interesting and spectacular itineraries of the Supramonte area.
It is a massive cleft which separates the ridge of the “Silano Coast” from the extremely steep crags of Mount Oddeu; its walls, which reach over 300m. in height, are the result of the erosion of a stream which, over the course of millennia, dug its bed through the gaps opened by remote telluric movements, and which now flows underground almost all year round.
The Gorge can be reached by all-terrain vehicles following an unsurfaced track crossing the forest of S’Abba Arva.
The excursion then continues on foot, along a shady path leading to the Gorge.
